15-th August might turn out to be a big day for technophiles as Samsung has revealed their intentions for announcing something big today. The tech world is already buzzing with anticipation and many experts are speculating that it might actually be the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 inch version.
Samsung had announced the 10.1″ Galaxy Note at the Mobile World Congress last February. The 10.1″ version has new apps and features that are not only certifiably awesome, but the possibilities of S-Pen Stylus has been revamped as well. This tablet is set to come with Android 4.0 (Ice-cream Sandwich) , two cameras, a dual core processor and HD video support.
The specifications are looking nice and powerful but if the launch is confirmed then it might be a direct clash with the recently released Samsung Galaxy SIII. Whether Samsung would like to have two premium offerings clashing with each other is not clear but this might be a ploy to curb the demands for the impending iPhone 5 release.
The invitations sent by Samsung Electronics America to many technology bigwigs mentioned the release of a new Galaxy device. This division of Samsung generally handles non smartphone launches so there is already a high chance that the device is going to be a tablet. Furthermore, Samsung Galaxy Note is coming to T-mobile soon and there are speculations about a Samsung Galaxy 2.
Now we will just have to wait till 15th August to find out the truth.
Valhalla Game Studios’ Devil’s Third, a third person shooter / hack and slash game that went into development in 2009 is soon to be released worldwide on multiple platforms including PC. The game has been in development for three years now and launched its first trailers in E3 2010 raising expectations all around.
The game was supposed to be launched by THQ. But according to recent news, THQ has relinquished its rights to the Devil’s Third franchise and the rights have been reinstated to the original developers Valhalla Game Studios. Whether this THQ move was fueled by the unusually long development time is a matter of speculation. On the plus side however, there are certain indications from the developers that the game might see the light of day soon.
Satoshi Kanematsu, CEO of Valhalla Games, said the following on the developers’ website – “To all our fans and members of the industry, we greatly appreciate your support… We will continue to do our best to fulfill your expectations, and we sincerely hope for your continued encouragement and support”.
In recent communications, Valhalla mentioned that the development is still under progress. But it will get launched soon on many platforms. Good news for PC owners as the game comes out on PC, however recent PC releases of some titles have seen configuration issues as the developers are now encouraging PC owners to use gamepads instead of keyboard. If it is really fun to play a third person shooter game using gamepad is a matter of debate. Whether Devil’s Third adopts any such technique is yet to be seen.
The first official trailer for the game was unveiled at E3 2010. The trailer showed some sweet moves with crisp graphics. The combination of third person shooting and hack and slash in the same game seems pretty cool. If the controls are not tricky and if there is a decent storyline then this game should be a blast to play. The game studio has not revealed any storyline though so the replay value can not be assumed as of now.
Kanematsu has confirmed that he is envisioning the Devil’s Third as something more than just another PC game. He is planning manga, novels, animes and probably mainstream movies to expand the franchise. With such ambitions, it is highly likely that the game will spawn sequels. But we have to wait and see the public reception of the game first. Historically, titles that spend too much time in development have a tendency of bombing upon launching (remember Duke Nukem, Dead Island).
Valhalla has taken the first step right though, by appointing Tomonobu Itagaki of Dead Or Alive fame, to handle the Devil’s Third franchise. All in all things aren’t looking bad. Now we just need to wait for the game to come to the shelf. I will update you with a review as soon as possible. Till then enjoy this trailer of Devil’s Third 😉
Much to the relief of millions of Galaxy Nexus lovers, the higher appeals court has lifted the temporary injunction on Samsung Galaxy Nexus phones put into effect by the District Court. The Galaxy Nexus ban was brought into effect last Friday.
The federal appeals court has nullified the previous injunction banning Samsung from selling Galaxy Nexus devices and have given Apple till Thursday to fight back with an argument as to why should the ban be reinstated. If Apple can do that successfully the ban might be in effect again. So it is still not time for Samsung lovers to celebrate.
Going back to the previous months, Apple had filed an appeal requesting a temporary ban on the Galaxy Nexus as Apple believed the device had violated at least 4 different Apple patents. Last week lower district court judge Lucy Koh decided in favor of a preliminary ban. Apple has since submitted 95.6 million bond required for the ban to go into effect- it is the penalty that Apple has to pay if Samsung wins the case.
The plea to lift the ban was denied by Lucy Koh, and Samsung moved to the federal appeals court. Google in the meantime was working on a patch to sidestep the patent claims.
Yesterday though, the appeals court lifted the lower court ruling and the Galaxy Nexus is now back on Google Play store.
The case however is still on and it might be months before any final verdict is reached. The question is however, is Apple taking the easy way by suing companies for patent violation left and right rather than innovating and staying ahead in the game? The four patent violations include features as simple as Integrated search function, slide to unlock technology etc. One has to wonder whether granting patents on such features is wrong in the first place. HTC faced problems with similar patents last year.
Similar cases in England and Netherlands were laughed out of the court and same might happen here as well. If it does then it is definitely good news for the average customer and room for innovation and variation increases for the hand held device manufacturers. Also this Apple fiasco might have actually boosted sales for the Nexus as the demands have skyrocketed after the ban was in place.
The ban however is lifted for now and Google has announced that Samsung Galaxy Nexus is going to be the first device running Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean). Things are definitely looking good for the US people in this Independence month.
The first night of July, 2012 saw something really spectacular. As Vicente Del Bosque’s sleek Spanish team and Cesare Prandelli’s determined Italian team locked horns at the Euro 2012 final, many expected a stellar match filled with attack and counter-attack. Yes there was attack and no, there was no counter attack. Millions watched in awe as Spain literally destroyed their Italian counter parts and then some more. Some had expected a defensive match and yes, there was defence. But only one team was doing it, and not a very good job of it.
Winning a tournament as big as Euro is never an easy task. Winning the Euro final by a 4 – 0 margin is even more difficult. Winning the Euro final by a 4 – 0 margin against a team like Italy, the inventor of the Catenaccio defensive system, is insane to say the least. Spanish “Tiki taka” crushed the Italian “Catenaccio” and produced the most one-sided final match in recent memory.
The Azuri’s massacre of the Germans couple of days ago made the Italian fans hopeful but few concerns were creeping in already. Although Balotelli scored a brace in that match, it was difficult to repeat that feat against the Spanish as their defence was a lot more stronger. Pirlo was the only player noticeable but Del Bosque’s strategy made sure he did not get even a sniff at the ball for first half an hour. Add that to Xavi, Iniesta, Fabregas’ meticulous and lethal passing football and you have got the formula. Casillas was again impregnable under the crossbar while Buffon was not at his best in this crucial match. Also the Spanish created too much speed in their game which threw the Italian side off balance. The strength of this Spanish side comes from their ability to play relentless passes at breakneck speed and the understanding between their midfielders. This glaring difference was specially noticeable when for the first half an hour or so, the Italian midfield could barely touch the ball. Even the charismatic Pirlo was off color and there was no connections being made between the midfield and forward line. ezSometimes it feels like the Spanish midfielders could pass each other blindfolded. Torres was cool and collected up front and made sure he converted the opportunity.
The match is now done and dusted and Spain has lifted the Euro, the World cup and the Euro again in a span of four years. And questions are already being raised if this Spanish side is the new dominators of the World Football. And quite frankly it looks so. Some experts believe these Spanish bunch is even more dangerous than Maradona’s 1986 Argentina team. Winning back to back Euros, and the World cup in between sure points that way.
Only time will tell if the Spanish will emerge as the true world leaders. But for some time atleast, the focus will shift from Messi and Ronaldo towards the likes of Xavi, Iniesta, Casillas, Fabregas and Torres. Well done Spain, long live the beauty of “Tiki taka”.

The Higgs-Boson particle or the God particle of Physics has long eluded the scientists. Peter Higgs first predicted its existence in 1964 and Satyendranath Bose first hinted at this particle having unique properties. Hence the name Higgs-Boson particle. Leo Lederman declared this particle as the “God” particle of physics. It is one of those particles whose existence has been proven theoretically but never practically. According to theory, this is the particle that provides the mass to all other known particles. Without this particle, other particles will just zip through the universe at the speed of light without ever forming anything. The importance of proving the existence of Higgs-Boson is too much to be expressed in words. If proven non-existent, almost all the recent nuclear physics theories will fall down like a pack of cards.
But what happened so suddenly that physicists all around the world are so excited about the “Good News” finally after decades of fruitless experiments? The reason is an announcement by CERN. They have invited five of the worlds leading theoretical physicists to attend the news conference to be held on 4th July including Peter Higgs, the man who predicted the very existence of the Higgs-Boson particle.
According to CERN physicist john Ellis one of the key reasons for building the Large Hadron Collider is indeed the the discovery of the Higgs-Boson particle. According to Higgs’ theory some Higgs-Boson particles could be created from every few trillion collisions within the Large Hadron Collider and this is the result CERN has been trying to achieve with LHC. The Large Hadron Collider is the most ambitious science equipment that is located in an 18 mile long tunnel 100 meter under the ground at the French-Swiss border. There have been more than 1600 Trillion collisions but fewer than 300 suspected Higgs-Boson particles.
It is being highly speculated that the five Physicists are being invited to confirm the existence of Higgs-Boson to Five Sigma Level (99.99995 %).
While at the same time, American Fermilab has announced that thy have found “something”, using Tevatron and the findings will be declared on Monday, 2-nd July. Speculations are that this “something” is related to the Higgs-Boson particle as well.
